A doctor rather than a designer

Fashion lovers in the city got to experience U.A.E-based designer, Varoin Marwah’s latest collection ‘Amala’ (which means hope in Arabic), that was showcased at the International Luxury Style Week at Movenpick Hotel last week.

“This collection is inspired by the cause of education for the underprivileged child,” says Varoin who feels strongly for these kids. Varoin has joined hands with Bengaluru-based NGO Yuvalok and a part of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the cause.

The collection echoes Varoin’s beliefs for the underprivileged. “There are 30 pieces in my collection which tells a story in the form of colours and details. The first set is in black symbolising the darkness in the lives of children due to lack of education. The ensembles have details to indicate pathways to the light. The second set moves to white depicting hope. The final set revels in various hues to showcase the colourful and multi-faceted life a child can have if he or she is educated.”

The 36-year-old designer, who graduated from JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi, describes himself as a silent story teller who allows his creations to do the talking.

Varoin, an exclusive men’s wear designer, feels that the time has come for men to be as fashion conscious as women. “Gone are the days when we would only think of different outfits for women while men stick to boring shirts and trousers. I feel men are not far behind.” He loves designing outfits for men and his designs include Indian, Western, wedding, party, formals and casual wear.

When designing, Varoin is careful to understanding the requirement and comfort of the individual. He pays obsessive attention to detail in terms of colour and cut. “I use myself as the muse when I design. I can see my reflection in every outfit I design. If I feel I am comfortable wearing that outfit, only then do I include it in my collection.”

Varoin who loves to call himself, “a fashion doctor rather than a designer,” insists his designs make the wearer look slim and fit. The designer says he doesn’t design keeping a target customer in mind. “I design for a child and his grand father.”

Fashion and film cannot be far apart and Varoin has designed for actors such as Varun Dhawan and Sushant Singh Rajput. “My dream is to design for Amitabh Bachchan. That will be my greatest success.”

Though originally from Delhi, Varoin chose to set up base in Dubai as he believes fashion is global. Varoin feels strongly about the need for fashion and says: “Fashion is the reflection of your own personality. It can be governed by your current situation or surroundings that influence your mood to wear something that will make you feel comfortable.”
