After some patients have done a CT plain scan, the radiology department or clinical doctor recommends that they do an enhanced scan. If you encounter this situation, will you have doubts in your heart: Is it necessary to do an enhanced scan after the CT has been done? Here, we can tell you with certainty that it is very necessary. What is the “strong” about enhanced scanning? Please follow us to learn about it.
The principle of CT enhanced examination
CT enhanced scanning is one of the CT scanning techniques. In layman’s terms, it is to inject a special type of iodine-containing drug from the vein (usually the antecubital vein) into the blood vessel while performing a multi-phase CT scan. The drug is injected intravenously quickly using a high-pressure syringe to maintain the iodine agent in the blood at a certain level. By observing the distribution differences of iodine compounds in various organs and tissues, the blood supply of the lesion is understood, and differential diagnosis is helped, so that the detection rate and accuracy of the disease can be greatly improved, which is conducive to the identification of benign and malignant lesions, and the qualitative analysis of the lesions is clearer.
The clinical significance of CT enhanced examination
Improve the detection rate of lesions (especially small lesions). Since the degree of enhancement of lesions and normal organs is inconsistent, enhanced scanning artificially increases the density difference between them, so that isodense lesions or small tumors that cannot be displayed by plain scanning can be clearly found.
Improve the qualitative ability of lesions. CT plain scanning has a low detection rate for lesions, and its qualitative and differential abilities are also limited. Dynamic enhanced scanning can improve the qualitative ability of lesions according to the presence, degree, and enhancement method or type of lesion enhancement, ctscan and it is not difficult to make a qualitative diagnosis for typical cases. The purpose of enhanced scanning is to improve the accuracy of tumor staging or determine the possibility of surgical resection of tumors.
Dynamic enhanced scanning is essential for diagnosing vascular lesions. Enhanced scanning is also very important for distinguishing vascular and non-vascular lesions, such as distinguishing blood vessels and small lymph nodes. It is often difficult to distinguish lymph nodes and blood vessels in the hilum, neck, pelvis and other parts in images. Through enhanced scanning, the density difference between high-density blood vessels and unclearly enhanced lymph nodes is increased, making it easy to distinguish.
